Daniel Radcliffe won his first-ever Tony Award and emotionally thanked his family in the acceptance speech.

The Harry Potter actor used the opportunity to share his love for his partner Erin Darke and their son in a sweet declaration, once again proving his status as the best grown-up child star.

After being announced as the winner of the Best Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical Tony for Merrily We Roll Along, the 34-year-old made the comments, which were even more special as he rarely speaks about his personal life.

‘My love, Erin. You and our son are the best thing that’s ever happened to me. I love you so much. Thank you so much,’ he said while fighting tears. The camera panned to Erin, 39, sitting in the audience, who responded with a smile to his declaration.

The couple has been together since 2012 after meeting on the set of their movie Kill Your Darlings, and welcomed a son in April 2023, whose name they have not publicly revealed.

He also gave a nod to his own dad on Father’s Day and thanked both his parents, who were also in New York’s David Koch Theatre at Lincoln Center, for ‘loving’ him.

He concluded the address by thanking ‘everyone’ and scurrying off the stage. The award was Daniel’s first major gong for acting.

Earlier in his speech, he said: ‘Thank you so much. Okay, I’m going to just talk fast and try not to cry.

‘Thank you so much to the Broadway League and the American Theatre wing for this unbelievable honour…

‘This has been one of the best experiences of my life.Thank you for thinking of me for this. It’s been unbelievable.

‘Thank you so much to our cast, everybody on that stage.’

He went on to say he’d miss working with co-stars Jonathan Groff and Lindsay Mendez.

‘I will never have it this good again,’ he added of his experience working on the revival of the 1981 Stephen Sondheim musical.

Daniel was able to beat out competition from Roger Bart (Back To The Future: The Musical), Joshua Boone (The Outsiders), Brandon Victor Dixon (Hell’s Kitchen), Sky Lakota-Lynch (The Outsiders), and Steven Skybell (Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club).

On the star-studded evening, Angelina Jolie, 49, also won her first Tony as a producer of The Outsiders and brought along her 15-year-old daughter Vivienne, who is credited as a producer’s assistant.

‘Society changes, but the experience of being an outsider is universal,’ she said in her acceptance speech.

She told Deadline: ‘My daughter Viv loves theatre.

‘She appreciates all theatre but she certainly knows what she feels close to and what she responds to. She went to see The Outsiders at La Jolla about five times and was telling me about it, and I had read the book, and I’d seen the film years ago.’

At the urging of her daughter, Angelina revisited the material and began ‘really watching the effect it was having on my young daughter and what she was telling me about herself, and I was learning what about it was important to her and why it connected so deeply to her.’

Performances on the night included Nicole Scherzinger who sang,What I Did for Love during the In Memoriam segment and a performance of Empire State of Mind by Alicia Keys and Jay-Z.

Hell’s Kitchen, which is loosely based on Alicia’s life and features her music, picked up five awards.

At the 77th annual Tony Awards, which celebrates Broadway productions, Stereophonic made history.

It became the most nominated play in the awards show’s history with 13 nominations – five of which they won. The play, set in the 1970s, tells the story of a British-American rock band trying to bring out an album.
